I have spent more than 25 years immersed in music as a DJ, record collector, writer, and music industry professional.
My journey began in Rome and continued through record stores, distributors, labels, DJ booths, and music scenes in Madrid, London, New York, and Los Angeles. Along the way, I learned that finding great music isn't about having more options. It's about knowing how to listen and what to choose.
How Selecto Beats began
I have also been writing about music since the early 2000s. Through my blog, Underground Music in Rome, I reviewed records and documented a scene in which I was actively involved.
Years spent around record stores, distributors, labels, DJ booths, and backstage gave me the opportunity to watch some of the world's most respected DJs up close. I learned that a great selection requires more than musical knowledge. It also calls for context, curiosity, an understanding of the dance floor, and a distinct point of view.
That editorial practice continues today. I personally write the reviews for the records available at Selecto Beats and help independent labels prepare release notes for their music.
When I arrived in Mexico, I found a community with a deep passion for music, but also a familiar challenge: discovering truly worthwhile records demanded too much time and too much searching. Selecto Beats was created to do that listening, research, and selection before each record reaches the catalog.
