Casi veinte años después de que Rozzo (Andre Schmid) y Serafin (Philippe Egger) unieran fuerzas como Mountain People, el proyecto sigue demostrando por qué se ha convertido en sinónimo de house profundo, elegante y funcional. “The Mountain People – The Cat The Guru” en formato 12” es una muestra sólida de esa madurez sonora: cuatro cortes diseñados con precisión quirúrgica para la pista, editados bajo su propio sello Mountain People, con ese enfoque minimalista y sofisticado que los caracteriza.
El viaje arranca con “For What It’s Worth”, un track que desde el primer compás deja clara la intención: bajos con influencia Motor City, sintes envolventes y una base tech-house espaciosa que respira y avanza con groove firme. Es de esos cortes que construyen atmósfera sin saturar, perfectos para abrir o para dar profundidad a un set nocturno. Después llega “I Was You”, donde la batería adquiere un matiz ligeramente más jazzy, el bajo entra con stabs marcados y los samples se retuercen con sutileza, generando tensión controlada y mucho movimiento en la mezcla.
El lado más oscuro se manifiesta en “The Cat The Guru”, un track con historia que formó parte del DJ mix para Fuse London en 2015. Aquí el shuffle tech-house se vuelve glitchy, hipnótico y mental, con detalles que juegan con la percepción y empujan la pista hacia terrenos más profundos y envolventes. Es un corte que exige buen sistema de sonido y manos finas en la cabina. Finalmente, “No Thing Every Thing” ofrece un respiro melódico, más panorámico y evocador, sin perder el pulso rítmico que mantiene la energía lista para continuar el viaje.
Este vinilo de Mountain People no solo reafirma la consistencia del dúo tras 25 sencillos publicados, sino que confirma su capacidad para evolucionar sin perder identidad. Un 12” pensado para sets largos, transiciones cuidadas y momentos donde el detalle marca la diferencia.
